Yemen crisis causes growing international concern — Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, April 2 /TASS/. The Yemen crisis is a source of growing concern, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday.

"A Saudi-led military operation against Yemen that was joined by a coalition of Arab states has already claimed the lives of about 250 people. About 200 people have been wounded. In this connection, the UNICEF reports that 62 children have already died in Yemen under the bombs are sounding more and more alarming," the Russian diplomat stressed.

"Civil infrastructure is being seriously destroyed and fierce fighting is under way for Aden, Yemen’s second vital city," Lukashevich said. "We still believe that there is no alternative to the solution of the Yemen crisis. We are convinced that a desire to inflict a military defeat on the enemy which is being demonstrated by the sides in conflict is taking them to nowhere. Sooner or later, they will have to sit down to talks," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman went on to say.

He added that Russia would continue exerting active efforts, in cooperation with Yemeni factions, the Middle East states and the international community, to search for political solutions to this conflict with an aim to end the military hostilities as soon as possible and re-launch negotiations on the pan-Yemeni political process," Lukashevich said.
