Poroshenko Bloc says Kiev might agree to a number of compromises on Donbas

Earlier, Ukrainian President Poroshenko said the issue of federalization and autonomy of certain Ukrainian regions was subject to national referendum

KIEV, February 9. /TASS/. Ukraine’s authorities might agree to a number of compromises to settle the situation in Donbas, Yuri Lutsenko, the leader of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction in the Ukrainian parliament, said on Sunday.

He said Kiev might grant "broader rights on humanitarian, economic and other issues."

"But this territory must live under Ukrainian laws," he told the Inter television channel.

Apart from that, in his words, a compromise solution might be reached concerning patrolling the territory of Donbas. "A compromise solution might be if the situation there is controlled not only by Ukrainian but by some local residents. But these should be national guards and Ukraine’s interior ministry," he said.

Also, these territories should hold local elections monitored by Ukraine and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The Ukrainian state border, he stressed, should be controlled by Ukrainian servicemen only.

"Neither peacekeeping troops, nor joint patrolling with Russia, nor any other option will even be able to bring peace if state control is not exercised by the Ukrainian armed forces and state border service," he said.
