HAVANA, February 6. /TASS/. The unipolar world of today is being replaced by a new order based on several major centers of power, a senior Russian diplomat said.

"We are now witnessing creation of a polycentric world system," Deputy Foreign Minister Vasily Nebenzya said after two days of talks between foreign ministry representatives from Russia and Cuba in Havana, recalling two previous centers of power in the past and a bipolar world which he said had become unipolar.

We cannot "exclude that perturbations and disturbances we now observe result from the fact that someone doesn’t want to lose the unipolar world, being replaced with a polycentric one," the diplomat said, noting "many centers of power and economic development today".

"Economic strength long ago started to shift towards the Asia-Pacific region," he said, adding that this was generating cooperation formats such as the BRICS developing-nation assembly of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), comprising Russia, China and the Central Asian former Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

"These blocks are not aimed against any third party. They are associations of interests representing countries from all continents sharing common approaches to the future of the global economy and financial policy," Nebenzya said.

"The world is not only polycentric, it is also various," he added. "And we wish to live in the world where this variety would be taken into account."

Russia's delegation was in Havana for consultations and talks between Nebenzya, Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas.
