Celebrations of 70th anniversary of Klapeida liberation begin in Lithuania

The liberation of Klaipeda by the Soviet troops, officially declared on January 28, 1945, crowned the final ouster of Nazi troops from Lithuania

KLAIPEDA, January 27. /TASS/. Citizens of Klaipeda — a Lithuanian sea port on the Baltic Sea coast, are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Klaipeda from Nazi occupants. The liberation of Klaipeda by the Soviet troops, officially declared on January 28, 1945, crowned the final ouster of Nazi troops from Lithuania.

“The celebrations on the occasion of a remarkable anniversary are opening Tuesday; a gala meeting devoted to the liberation of the city will be held at the Klaipeda concert hall where Lithuanian professional and amateur singers, pop music and folk groups will perform in a concert program based on recommendations of war veterans," TASS was told by Nina Kolysheva, a member of the Association of teachers of Russian schools in Lithuania and a member of the Society of Russian Culture "Fatherland."

On the occasion of the remarkable anniversary due on January 28 many participants in the gala event will lay flowers and wreaths onto the graves of the soldiers who liberated Klaipeda and attend a gala meeting which will be held at the central memorial to Soviet soldiers in Klaipeda.
