Kiev attempts to regain control of towns controlled by Donetsk militias — defense ministry

According to DPR's defense ministry spokesman, all the attempts by Kiev to break through the defense line were disrupted by militias of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics

DONETSK, January 25. /TASS/. Ukraine’s military made several attempts on Sunday to force militias out of Gorlovka and Novoorlovka, the towns that are under control of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, the DPR defense ministry spokesman Eduard Basurin said.

“During the day, the enemy has attempted to break through our defense line by artillery fire and attacks of armored groups and force the militia forces out of the towns of Gorlovka and Novoorlovka,” he said.

He also noted that the most difficult situation is now in the Debaltsevo direction.

The spokesman stressed that “the militia forces are on the defense positions.”

According to him, all the attempts by Ukraine’s troops to break through the defense line were disrupted by militias of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, which maintain the flexible defense.

Ukraine’s troops are regrouping their forces and moving up the reserves, while firing on the Donetsk republic’s army positions.

“Along the whole frontline Ukraine’s sabotage-reconnaissance groups have stepped up their actions. They are directing reconnaissance of targets in combat formations of the DPR army to further fire attacks,” he said.

The spokesman said the enemy has suspended active offensive actions in the Donetsk direction.

“Donetsk citizens after the city shellings, which have led to mass victims among peaceful citizens, including children, are often decisively and intolerantly minded against the Ukrainian servicemen,” he said.

Basurin added that militias suppress any attempts to take the law into people’s hands. “We are not planning to act the same way as the castigators sent to our land from Kiev and other countries,” he said.
