LIVE, January 19 /TASS/. Kiev favours immediate convocation of a meeting of the Contact Group for Ukraine and for talks on the situation in Donbas to be held in the “Normandy format” at the level of foreign ministers and the heads of state, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said at a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Eva Kovacs on Monday.

“We would like to reemphasize that we are ready for immediate convocation of a Contact Group meeting and for holding talks in the ‘Normandy format’ in Astana or in any other place to make sure that a schedule of implementation of the Minsk agreements is signed,” the Ukrainian president said.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said in his previous statements that he doesn't see the point in holding talks in “the Normandy format” at the level of foreign ministers as long as there are no real prospects for agreement.

Klimkin said prospects for the Normandy Quartet summit meeting are over-exaggerated because no progress can be seen at the moment.

“It is the result rather than the deadlines that is important,” Klimkin said.

The so-called Normandy format was established in June when Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko discussed the Ukrainian crisis on the sidelines of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day in Normandy, France.
