MINSK, January 16. /TASS/. There are no shifts towards peace in Donbas, said Denis Pushilin, the plenipotentiary representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) at the Contact Group on Ukraine set up to resolve the conflict in the country’s south-east.

“We are watching intensifying shelling. Over the past 24 hours, the DPR was shelled 57 times, five civilians were killed and nine wounded,” Pushilin said, adding that artillery shelling topped the summer level.

“We think it is important to continue the peace process and to do everything possible to transfer everything into a sphere of peace negotiations,” he said.

Ukraine is not independent in the peace negotiating process, Deniengo said for his part.

Igor Plotnitsky, the head of the LPR said on Friday he saw no point in his taking part in the Minsk talks on the settlement in eastern Ukraine as long as previous agreements were not implemented.

“Today, I see no point for the republic’s leader to take part in these talks. There are no concrete results on the previous agreements. Truce is only observed on paper. Economic blockade of the Luhansk People’s Republic is only toughening. Another evidence for that — Ukraine’s imposing a pass control regime for the population,” the press service of the LPR head quoted Plotnitsky as saying.

Denis Pushilin and Vladislav Deinego, who represented the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) at negotiations of the Contact Group for Ukraine, are leaving Minsk, the capital of Belarus.

“Until the last minute, we had expected someone to come to the meeting so that we did not have grounds to doubt an OSCE invitation. But nothing happened,” Deinego told journalists at the Minsk airport.

Pushilin, in turn, added that the date for a new meeting had not yet been set.

Last Wednesday, Deinego said that the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) had invited the heads of the DPR and LPR to attend a regular meeting of the Contact Group for Ukraine scheduled to be held in Minsk on January 16.
