Ukraine to begin imports of electricity from Moldova, Belarus, Russia in coming days

KIEV, December 26. /TASS/. Ukraine will begin imports of electricity from Moldova, Belarus and Russia in the coming few days so as to be able to stop rolling outages of electric power in different parts of the country, the Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Coalmining, Volodymyr Demchishin said on Friday.

He recalled that the government had issued permissions to any companies to import electricity in order “to bring people’s life back to normal as soon as possible.”

“We’ve opened up the opportunities to import electricity from Moldova, Belarus and Russia,” Demchishin said. “Talks (with suppliers in the three countries) are in the final phase.”

He indicated that the imports by Ukrainian electric power suppliers on agreements with neighboring countries will begin soon.
