Donetsk to build mutually beneficial ties with neighbours — republican leader

Establishment of political and economic ties with Kiev “mainly depends on Ukrainian authorities,” Alexander Zakharchenko told

DONETSK, December 25. /TASS/. The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic will build mutually beneficial partnership relations with neighbours, Donetsk republican leader Alexander Zakharchenko told the Donetsk news agency.

“I adhere to the following position: we should build mutually advantageous partnership relations with all our neighbours,” he said.

Establishment of political and economic ties with Kiev “mainly depends on Ukrainian authorities,” Zakharchenko noted.

Ukraine to benefit from Donetsk to stay in hryvna zone

In an interview with the Donetsk news agency Zakharchenko said that republican economy should stay in the hryvna zone.

“I want us to stay in the hryvna zone of influence,” he said. However, Zakharchenko noted that everything would depend on Kiev’s steps in the near future and “Minsk talks should settle much in this issue.”

“All depends on whether a package of documents which we had prepared for talks in the Minsk format will be discussed,” the leader of the self-proclaimed republic said.

This is profitable for Ukraine that the Donetsk People’s Republic will remain in the hryvna zone, Zakharchenko said. “But they are pushing us out of it for some reasons and the further the quicker they are doing so,” he said.

Meanwhile, he did not rule out that if mutual understanding was not reached with Ukrainian authorities, the Donetsk republic may introduce its own currency.
