Keeping a non-aligned status has been a big mistake of Ukraine’s former authorities, Poroshenko said

KIEV, December 20. /TASS/. Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko insists that a bill on the cancellation of Ukraine’s non-aligned status should be submitted to the parliament extraordinarily.

“It does not mean [Ukraine is] entering NATO but we are resuming Euro Atlantic integration,” Poroshenko said at a meeting of the country’s National Security and Defence Council on Saturday.

He said that keeping a non-aligned status had been a big mistake of Ukraine’s former authorities.

He instructed Speaker Vladimir Groisman to consider without delay this issue in the parliament.

“I think it [the bill on the cancellation of Ukraine’s non-aligned status] will be adopted by lawmakers,” the head of state said.

Ukraine will hold gradual mobilization of the armed forces in 2015 amid developments in the country’s east, Poroshenko said.

“The mobilization should be done with regard to earlier made mistakes,” he said at a meeting of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council adding that units should be banned from dispatching to the combat areas until they underwent training.
