SUKHUM, December 11. /TASS/. The Russian-Abkhazian Treaty on Allied Relations and Strategic Partnership will give a new impetus to bilateral relations, Abkhazian President Raul Khadzhimba said on Thursday.

“The Treaty will help solve security problems and expand possibilities for further recognition of Abkhazia’s independence,” he said.

Khadzhimba said he was confident that the parliament would ratify the Treaty till the end of the year.

“We also can reset social and economic cooperation with Russia,” Khadzhimba said.

At the session of the intergovernmental commission in Sochi on November 25 “we agreed that from 2015 the larger part of Russia’s aid would be used to implement projects in the real sector of Abkhazia’s economy”, Khadzhimba said.

This "will allow us to change the vector of interaction with Russia”, he said.

He stressed the need to work out Abkhazia’s own scenario of economic development. “It is necessary to work out measures that will make it possible to minimize the effects of external and internal crises,” Khadzhimba said.

He called for “strengthening government institutions, making them transparent and curbing corruption”.
