Hundreds of Moldovans chanting "Let us Vote!" at closed polling station in Moscow

MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. Hundreds of Moldovan citizens who failed to cast their votes at the parliamentary elections because the Moscow polling station has run out of ballot papers are staying around the building of the Moldovan consulate chanting “Let us Vote!”

Earlier, chairman of the election commission Anatoly Patrashku told TASS that the opening hours of the polling station at the Moldovan consulate in Moscow will not be extended. There are no more ballot papers, he said.

“It was decided not to extend the work of the polling station, since all the 3,000 ballot papers have been used,” he said.

Earlier on Sunday, Moscow’s police said a queue to the polling station at the Moldovan consulate numbered about 5,000 people. People who failed to take part in the polling are grudging but no violations of public order have been reported.

The Moldovan government opened only five polling stations across the entire Russia for Moldovans willing to take part in the parliamentary elections on Sunday. These polling stations are located in Moscow, in the town of Ramenskoye in the Moscow region, in Novosibirsk, in St. Petersburg, and in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi. Meanwhile, according to official statistics, as many as 700,000 Moldovans are staying in Russia. Unofficial sources put this number at one million. However, according to Moldova’s election regulations, each polling station can have only 3,000 ballot papers.
