Most Ukrainians unwilling to participate in protest actions

About 45% of Ukrainians support pro-European demonstrations, while 48% are against them, with 7% hesitating

KIEV, February 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Most Ukrainians are not ready to participate in any protest actions, according to a social survey.

The results of the poll conducted by the "Rating +" company for the Ukrainian Forum political association, which were published on Friday, showed that only 17% of Ukrainian citizens participated in protests, while 81% kept away from active actions. Some 42% agree to take part only in peaceful meetings and demonstrations, and 13% to affix their signatures to a petition, an appeal or an open letter. Those ready for radical forms of protest number few. Only 3% are potential participants in an armed opposition in Ukraine, and 1% could personally participate in seizure of administrative buildings and block roads.

At the same time, about 45% support pro-European demonstrations, while 48% are against them, with 7% hesitating.

Among the reasons why most citizens do not support mass actions are lack of confidence in opposition leaders, condemnation of radical forms of protest, fears to lose economic stability and disappointment in politics.
