Arms supplies to Ukraine will increase risk of Russia’s involvement in conflict — diplomat

Most European Union member countries rare aware of the risk, says Russia’s permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov

MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. Most European Union member countries realize that in case weapons are supplied to Ukraine, the risk of Russia’s involvement in the conflict is growing, Russia’s permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said on the Rossiya 24 TV channel on Wednesday.

"The formal position of the EU is that decisions are made at the national level by each country," Chizhov said.

"We see that most European countries are negative about this prospect, being aware that this means to add oil to the flame of the conflict; the second thing which is even more dangerous is that the risk of direct response involvement of Russia and the risk of direct clash is increasing," he added.

"It is known that more than one shell launched from the territory of Ukraine landed in the territory of the Rostov Region and other constituent members of the Russian Federation," the diplomat recalled.

"So I think that this subject has been in many respects artificially added to the discourse around the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis," he said.
