MUNICH, February 6. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry are due to hold a bilateral meeting in Munich, Germany, on Saturday, a source familiar with the plans told TASS.

"At the moment, there is an understanding that such a meeting will take place on Saturday," the source said.

The Russian and US top diplomats are to meet in Germany where they will attend the Munich security conference, which opens on Friday and will run through Sunday.

The sides are expected to focus on the Ukrainian conflict as well as a range of bilateral issues.

Lavrov has repeatedly stressed that he has been meeting and holding phone conversations with the US Secretary of State more often than with any of his counterparts.

"It is most important that these discussions produce a result," the Russian foreign minister said.

The meeting comes after the Moscow talks of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande with Russian President Vladimir Putin later on Friday on a new peace initiative to end renewed fighting in eastern Ukraine.
