Moscow recommends Polish minister should brush up knowledge of political geography

Poland’s foreign minister said that sanctions against Russia embodied a common position of the whole world

MOSCOW, January 29. /TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for human rights, democracy and supremacy of law Konstantin Dolgov said on Thursday it would be highly desirable for Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna to recognize the obvious fact that the majority of countries did not join the anti-Russian sanctions introduced by Washington and Brussels.

"Poland’s foreign minister said that sanctions against Russia embodied a common position of the whole world," Dolgov wrote in his microblog on Twitter. "The problem is he forgot about China, India, Brazil, other Latin American countries, and Africa."

"Mr. Schetyna seems to need an upgrade not only in history but also in political geography," he said.

Scandal around Auschwitz liberation anniversary

Grzegorz Schetyna produced an uproar in the run-up to the 70th anniversary since the liberation of Auschwitz when he told Polish radio in the middle of last week the world’s most notorious death camp had been liberated by the First Ukrainian Front and the Ukrainians.

"It was the First Ukrainian Front and the Ukrainians who liberated the camp," he claimed when answering a question about why the Polish authorities had failed to invite President Vladimir Putin to the official events at Auschwitz-Birkenau.

"Since the Ukrainian soldiers were there on that January day, it was they who opened the camp’s gates," Schetyna said.

"It’s common knowledge that Auschwitz was liberated by the Soviet Red Army, the soldiers of which represented all the nationalities and fought with equal heroism," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a comment on Schetyna’s remarks

"Incidentally, the First Ukrainian Front had the official name of the Voronezh Front prior to November 1943 and before that it was the Bryansk Front," the comment said.
