PACE monitors support restoration of Russian delegation’s voting rights — Pushkov

“I have been told that the commission has supported rappoteur Stefan Schennach’s proposal,” the chairman of the State Duma’s Committee for International Affairs, Alexey Pushkov, said

STRASBOURG, January 27. /TASS/. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s (PACE) monitoring committee has supported the restoration of the Russian delegation’s voting rights at the assembly, the chairman of the State Duma’s Committee for International Affairs, Alexey Pushkov, said.

“I have been told that the commission has supported rappoteur Stefan Schennach’s proposal,” Pushkov told reporters.

“But the Assembly has reserved the right to annul the powers of the Russian delegation at the session in June, if there is no progress regarding the implementation of the Minsk memorandum and the Minsk protocols,” Pushkov said about the draft resolution on Schennach’s report.

“Now, as far as I understand, they have voted for preserving our right to vote. If this is really so, it is a considerable stride forward. If a delegation has no right to vote, what’s the point of attending?” Pushkov said.

In the meantime, he said that “the monitoring committee’s decision is not the last instance.” “Next, amendments are to be adopted. They will be discussed at the full-scale meeting,” he added.

Final versions of the report, Pushkov said, will be clear on Wednesday, January 28, after the monitoring commission has introduced amendments.
