Lavrov said Russia ready to undertake anything necessary for solving Ukrainian conflict

The aggravation of the situation in Ukraine originates from the shelling of towns by the Ukrainian military, Lavrov said in a telephone conversation with Kerry

MOSCOW, January 25. /TASS/. Lavrov in telephone conversation with Kerry stressed Russia ready to undertake anything necessary for coercion to peace the parties in Ukrainian conflict - Russian foreign ministry.

Washington should use its influence on the Ukrainian leadership to make Kiev refuse from placing its stake on a military scenario, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also told US Secretary of State John Kerry in a phone conversation on Sunday.

“Russia and the United States have confirmed readiness to contribute to resolving the Ukrainian crisis,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement after the phone conversation, which was held at the US initiative.

Lavrov stressed that the months-long crisis can be resolved only through a direct dialogue with Donetsk and Lugansk, while “Kiev is evading it and has obviously set a course for the violent suppression of Ukraine’s southeast.”

The sides called for “an immediate cessation of artillery strikes in Donbass and the withdrawal of heavy weapons.”

The Russian foreign minister stressed that the situation in Ukraine’s southeast has aggravated as a result of the “permanent shelling of towns by the Ukrainian military, who breached the Minsk agreements.”

Lavrov also said Kiev has failed to meet its commitments on launching an all-encompassing constitutional process involving all the regions and political forces of the country.

“There is also no progress in investigating numerous crimes committed during the inter-Ukrainian conflict,” Lavrov said.

Kiev has failed to respond to President Vladimir Putin’s message to his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko sent on January 15 that urged the sides to withdraw heavy weapons from the contact line in the framework of the September 19 Minsk memorandum.

Such an approach was backed at the meeting of foreign ministers of Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France in Berlin on January 21.

The Russian and US top diplomats also discussed the situation in Syria ahead of the January 26 inter-Syrian meeting in Moscow aimed at searching for the ways to overcome the domestic conflict in the country.
