BEIJING, January 23. /TASS/. Leaders of China and Russia will exchange state visits to attend May celebrations in both countries marking 70 years since victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Thursday.

“This year, we celebrate the 70th anniversary of victory in World War Two alongside victory in the Chinese people’s war against Japanese aggression,” she said. “Russia and China will hold joint events which will be attended by the leaders of the two states.”

The Kremlin press service told TASS that no final decision had been made on the issue.

“The possibility is being considered,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

“China attaches great importance to developing comprehensive strategic partnership and coordination between the People's Republic of China and Russia,” said ministry spokeswoman Hua. “We also appreciate the willingness of the Russian side to deepen and expand cooperation in various spheres.”

Chinese authorities wanted to work further with Moscow to maintain bilateral relations at a high level, she said, adding that this would allow Russia and China “to contribute to peace and stability both regionally and globally”.

Moscow has invited many global leaders — including the leaders of China, South Korea and North Korea — to its 70th Victory Day celebrations, which will feature a Red Square parade.
