MOSCOW, January 16. /TASS/. Moscow hopes that peace will be restored in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

Russia hopes that the meeting of Contact Group on Ukraine will let Kiev fulfill all points of the Minsk agreements, Lavrov added.

Kiev’s military preparations undermine the spirit and letter of the Minsk agreements, he noted. Military preparations do not help Kiev organize the meeting of Contact Group and other formats, the foreign minister said.

Progress in unconditional ceasefire needed to convene the "Normandy-format" summit, he said. Russia is ready for a ministerial-level meeting in the “Normandy format” if necessary, Lavrov noted.

“If discussions within the Contract Group or between the capitals require a meeting of the foreign ministers, we are ready to hold such a meeting,” he said.

Russia expects that the meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine in Minsk will encourage the implementation of the Minsk agreements and ceasefire, Lavrov said on Friday. “The issue of holding a meeting of the contact group directly involving representatives of the Ukrainian president and the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics alongside representatives of Russia and the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) is now being considered,” Lavrov said.
