Last test of Russia’s new Yars-based ballistic missile put off — source

The solid propellant inter-continental ballistic missile RS-26 will be launched in the first quarter of 2015

MOSCOW, January 16. /TASS/. The last test launch of the solid propellant inter-continental ballistic missile RS-26, created on the basis of the RS-24 Yars missile, has been postponed until the first quarter of 2015, a source in Russia’s defense sector said on Friday.

“The last test has been postponed until the first quarter of this year, and a decision will be taken after that,” the source said, explaining that the delay comes due to the lack of funding.

RS-26, known as Avangard and Rubezh, should be significantly lighter that RS-24 Yars. It has improved combat capabilities and will carry multiple warheads. Earlier reports said the new missile could enter into service in 2015.
