Russia’s paratroopers to get new air-dropped modular vehicle

“With KAMAZ we are planning to create a principally new air-dropped vehicle of a modular type that in prospect will allow us using weaponry on new physical principles,” General Vladimir Shamanov said

MOSCOW, January 2. /TASS/. Russia’s Airborne Troops (VDV) plan to develop a vehicle of a modular type able to be air-dropped and that will allow using weaponry based on new physical principles, Commander Colonel General Vladimir Shamanov said in an interview with TASS on Friday.

“With KAMAZ we are planning to create a principally new air-dropped vehicle of a modular type [4x4, 6x6] that in prospect will allow us using weaponry on new physical principles,” Shamanov said.

The new BMD-4M airborne combat vehicles and advanced multi-purpose Rakushka armored personnel carriers have generally confirmed the needed parameters during the state testing which was completed in 2014.

“There is some roughness, but I have no doubt, that we will overcome this,” he said.

The series supply of new armored vehicles is due to begin this year. The commander earlier said a total of 64 BMD-4M and more than 20 Rakushka armored personnel carriers are expected to be delivered in early 2015.

In 2014, Russia’s Airborne Troops received more than 20 BTR-82A advanced wheeled armored personnel carriers and also around 200 vehicles for various purposes on the basis of KAMAZ.
