Brother of Russian oppositionist placed in detention center until verdict takes effect

A Moscow district court has pronounced a guilty verdict to the Navalny brothers in a fraud case earlier Tuesday

MOSCOW, December 30. /TASS/. Brother of Russian oppositionist Alexey Navalny, Oleg Navalny, who was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison and arrested in the court room, was brought to the Moscow Butyrka detention center, where he will be staying until the court verdict takes effect, the press service of the Moscow branch of the Federal Penitentiary Service confirmed to TASS.

Meanwhile, Butyrka chief Sergey Telyatnikov told TASS that Oleg Navalny was brought to the detention center today after dinner and was taken to a quarantine ward according to the rules.

“He will stay at our detention center unless a court verdict comes into force or an appeal is tried and after the court verdict comes into legal force, he will be sent to prison. At the present moment he has made neither complaints nor statements,” Telyatnikov said.

His brother Oleg who was on recognizance not to leave the city was arrested in the courtroom after the verdict was pronounced, placing him for 3.5 years in prison.
