KHARTOUM, December 3. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday he hoped to discuss in Khartoum Russia’s possible contribution towards helping to resolve the conflict in Sudan's western Darfur region, as well as Sudan’s relations with some of its neighbours.

“We support President Omar Hassan al-Bashir's efforts to support national dialogue aimed at resolving the Darfur conflict,” Lavrov said at a meeting with his Sudanese counterpart Ali Ahmed Karti. “We also support Sudan’s efforts to settle differences in relations with some of its neighbours. We hope to discuss these issues, as well as the way Russia could contribute to resolving them.”

“We would like to develop bilateral relations more actively,” he said, noting that good progress had already been made. “We hope for productive talks,” he added.

Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Ahmed Karti thanked Lavrov for his visit and confirmed his country’s willingness to promote cooperation with Russia.
