Ferry service opened to connect Crimea's Sevastopol with Novorossiysk port in the Caucasus

A first ferry that arrived in Sevastopol on Monday has brought 80 freight trucks loaded with foodstuff and other commodities, Sevastopol Governor Sergey Menyailo told journalists

SEVASTOPOL, October 13. /TASS/. A ferry service has been opened to connect Sevastopol in Crimea with the sea port of Novorossiysk in the Caucasus. A first ferry that arrived in Sevastopol on Monday has brought 80 freight trucks loaded with foodstuffs and other commodities, Sevastopol Governor Sergey Menyailo told journalists.

In the near future four ferries with a capacity of 140 freight trucks each and running two times a week will be used to connect Sevastopol and Novorossiysk, the governor said.

For two months the Sevastopol administration had monitored the freight turnover between the Crimean and the Caucasian sea ports so as to convince someone in the administration that some of the cargoes should be directly brought to Sevastopol, he said. Simferopol and Sevastopol account for more than half of all cargoes delivered to Crimea, the governor said.

"We have managed to convince the transportation authorities that the ferries should rather call at our deep-sea port in the Kamyshovaya Bay," the Sevastopol governor said.

“Negotiations are going on with the aim to concentrate in Sevastopol a considerable part of goods shipped from Crimea to the Caucasus. The ferries should not return to the Caucasus empty," the Sevastopol governor said.
