No prerequisites for early elections to Duma — vice speaker

The parliament is actively working, all the factions are doing their job, says Vice Speaker of the State Duma Sergei Neverov

MOSCOW, March 28. /ITAR-TASS/. Vice Speaker of the State Duma, secretary of the General Council of the United Russia party, Sergei Neverov, has denied the possibility of holding early elections to the State Duma in 2015, of which leader of the A Just Russia party Sergei Mironov had spoken.

“There are no prerequisites for early elections to the State Duma,” Neverov stressed, adding that the “parliament is actively working, all the factions are doing their job.”

“Sergei Mikhailovich (Mironov) apparently, communicates with space. Otherwise it is unclear where he took this idea,” the United Russia leadership representative said, expressing confidence that “a federal politician in such serious matters should be guided by the rules laid down by the law, and not by a rush of feelings.”

On Thursday, Sergei Mironov did not rule out the possibility of holding elections to the State Duma in 2015, and not in 2016, in the context of Crimea’s accession to the Russian Federation.

Meanwhile, the head of the Duma committee for constitutional legislation, United Russia member Vladimir Pligin, told ITAR-TASS that “there are no grounds whatsoever at the present time for early elections,” and the “interests of the citizens of the Republic of Crimea and Federal City of Sevastopol will be represented by the current Duma members in accordance with the law on the status of the State Duma deputy and member of the Federation Council of the Russia's Federal Assembly."
