Gun-making legend Kalashnikov receives treatment from Moscow doctors

IZHEVSK, December 02. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Mikhail Kalashnikov, creator of the legendary AK-47 assault rifle, receives high level care with assistance of doctors from Moscow, the head of Udmurtia, a republic in west-central Russia, told reporters on Monday.

Izhevsk’s doctors “using telemedicine technologies constantly communicate with Moscow and coordinate their actions with the Russian Health Ministry,” he said.

Volkov said he had personally congratulated Kalashnikov on his 94th birthday on November 10. “Nothing spelled trouble. But for him, probably, this anyway means stress. Now it is difficult for him to speak and he, really, has become weaker,” he said.

Kalashnikov had been operated. “Any operation is stress even for a young body not to mention such an age. We think that the main thing for him is to recover and he is recovering,” Volkov said.

Kalashnikov, 94, was taken to an intensive therapy ward of the republican clinical and diagnostics center on November 17. He was diagnosed with gastrointestinal bleeding that was promptly stopped, Udmurtia Health Minister Vladimir Muzlov said.

The designer was undergoing intensive therapy and was not allowed visitors, doctors said.
