Russian opera star Elena Obraztsova dies at 75

The famous mezzo-soprano was one of the world's greatest opera singers

MOSCOW, January 12. /TASS/. Famous Russian opera singer Elena Obraztsova has died in Germany at the age of 75, the head of Obraztsova's cultural center said on Monday.

She gave no details of the causes of the death.

Obraztsova, a mezzo-sporano, was widely recognized as one of the world's greatest opera singers.

Obraztsova, who was born in 1939 in Leningrad (now St.Petersburg), appeared in some 100 opera roles.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolences to the singer's family and fans, the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said.
