Russia's remote sensing satellite Resource-P put on operational orbit

The second remote sensing satellite Resource-P was launched from the Baikonur space center on December 26 by rocket carrier Soyuz-2.1b

SAMARA, December 31. /TASS/. A second remote sensing satellite Resource-P was shifted from injection orbit to operational orbit on Wednesday, the press service of Volga River region’s Samara-based aerospace center Progress told TASS.

“Equipment for taking Earth surface imagery is being adjusted. Satellite operating parameters are normal. There are no remarks to the operation of onboard equipment,” the press service said.

The second remote sensing satellite Resource-P developed and produced at aerospace centre Progress was launched from the Baikonur space center on December 26 by rocket carrier Soyuz-2.1b. The orbiter is designed for making high-precision Earth surface pictures in different spectrum ranges and immediate data transfer for the Ministry of Natural Resources, domestic weather-forecasting service, Ministry of Emergencies, Agriculture Ministry, Fisheries Agency and other consumers. Research equipment Nuclon for outer space exploration with radiation registering was also mounted on the satellite.

A launch of third satellite Resource-P is expected in 2015 to finalise the shaping of the orbital system for high-definition recording of around 90 million square kilometers of territories annually.

The first satellite Resource-P was orbited on June 25, 2013.
