China launches space rocket with meteorological satellite

FengYun-2 satellite will be collecting and transmitting meteorological data

BEIJING, December 31. /TASS/. China has successfully launched a meteorological satellite FengYun-2 from the Xichang satellite launch center in south-western province Sichuan on Wednesday. The lift-off was made by rocket carrier Changzhen (Long March), Central Chinese Television reported.

FengYun-2 will be collecting and transmitting meteorological data which will make the quality of weather forecasts higher.

Satellites FengYun-2 belong to the second generation of Chinese polar orbital weather-forecasting satellites which are used for monitoring of natural disasters and environment.
