New Year gifts airlifted to Russian troops deployed in Arctic

The servicemen will receive New Year trees, gifts and postcards from their relatives

MOSCOW, December 29. /TASS/. New Year trees and plenty of other New Year gifts, including fruit and sweets, have been airlifted to the Russian military servicemen deployed on Cape Schmidt and on Wrangel island in the Arctic, a spokesman for the Russian Eastern Military District to which these troops belong told TASS on Monday.

"An An-12 plane performing its final flight in the outgoing year has brought New Year trees, gifts to servicemen, Christmas cards from their relatives and messages with the best wishes for the New Year from the command of the Eastern Military District," the spokesman, Colonel Igor Muginov, said.

Despite the New Year celebrations the servicemen deployed on Cape Schmidt and Wrangel island will tighten security and be provided with a full ammunition load, the spokesman said.
