Three leopards from Sochi breeding center to be released in 2015

The reserve currently houses 13 leopards, including eight cats born in Sochi

SOCHI, November 6. /TASS/. Three leopards born last year at the Sochi breeding center will be released into the wild in May 2015, the center's officials said on Thursday.

The cats are currently sharpening up their hunting skills, the officials added.

The center was opened in 2009 as part of the program to start a new population of the endangered Persian leopard in the Caucasus. Five leopards were then brought to Sochi from Portugal and Iran.

The reserve currently houses 13 leopards, including eight cats born in Sochi. Three of them were born in early November.

The leopard was one of the mascots of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi that took place on February 7-23.
