Russian pole vault champion Isinbayeva gives birth to daughter

The newborn’s name will be made public after the baby girl is baptized

MOSCOW, June 29, /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s two-times Olympic pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva has given birth to her first child, the Russian Athletics Federation said on its website on Sunday.

“Late on June 28, Yelena Isinbayeva gave birth to a daughter! The girl is 53 centimeters tall and weighs 3,820! Yelena and the newborn feel well. Before the child was born, Yelena had led a proactive life: she had spent much time in the open air, swum in the sea,” the federation said in a release.

The newborn’s name will be made public after the baby girl is baptized.

After her latest victory at the world championship in Moscow last August, Isinbayev said she was leaving track and field to become a mother. Nonetheless, she promised to be back to train for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Isinbayev, 32, is reputed as the best female pole vaulter of all time. She won Olympic gold twice - in 2004 and in 2008, and was silver medalist of the 2012 Olympics. Moreover, she is three-time World outdoor champion and four-time World indoor champion. She is a holder of 28 world pole vault records.
