Rescuers discover 22 bodies from Malaysian AirAsia jet

The search for the jet’s black box has so far yielded no results

SINGAPORE, January 2. /TASS/. Rescuers have found a total of 22 bodies of passengers and crew members from the crashed Malaysian air carrier AirAsia, a representative of Indonesia’s national search and rescue agency said on Friday.

A forensic examination is being conducted at a center in Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city. The rescue effort is hampered by bad weather conditions and divers are unable to carry out a full-fledged operation due to strong waves.

The search for the jet’s black box has so far yielded no results.

The AirAsia Airbus 320-200 airliner with 155 passengers and 7 crew members onboard disappeared from radars on December 28 in the area of the Kalimantan (Borneo) Island some 40 minutes after departure from Indonesia for Singapore. Most of the passengers were from Indonesia.
