ROME, August 6 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday that Moscow was calling on the Syrian government and opposition forces to join efforts to oust terrorists from the Syrian territory.

“We paid special attention to the Syrian theme. We agreed that it was necessary to exert efforts to convene an international conference to implement the Geneva Communique,” Lavrov said after a “two plus two” meeting.

“We drew attention to that part of the G-8 leaders’ statement in which they had stressed the need for the Syrian government and opposition to unite efforts to drive out terrorists,” the Russian foreign minister went on to say.

Lavrov said that Syrian militants had massacred 450 Kurdish civilians, including over a hundred children, in northern Syria.
