EEU facilitates economic, social stability in region — Lukashenko

According to Belarus president's statement, lifting restrictions in mutual trade should be the basis of the Eurasian Economic Union

MINSK, January 13. /TASS/. The Eurasian Economic Union facilitates economic and social stability in the region, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Tuesday.

Lukashenko sent an address to the heads of the state of the Eurasian Economic Union due to Belarus’ presidency in the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the presidential administration said.

The address said Belarus considered the Eurasian Economic Union “the most important integration association, which facilitates economic and social stability in the region”.

Lukashenko said lifting restrictions in mutual trade should be the basis of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Lukashenko also put forth several proposals. He called for taking measures to work out and adopt key directions of industrial cooperation within the Union and ensure the functioning of common markets of medicines from January 1, 2016.

He also proposes to start implementing the provisions that envision joint actions for increasing export.

Belarus attaches significance to work out concepts for forming common markets of electric power, gas and oil.

The customs tariff and non-tariff protection of the common customs space is the priority task.

Special attention should be paid to coordinating relations in the field of sanitary, veterinary and phytosanitary measures and the protection of consumers’ rights.

Lukashenko hopes for the EEU support to implement the Belarusian initiatives. “I’m sure that our close cooperation will be the keystone for the effective implementation of the plans and the EEU development as an independent center of sustainable economic development,” he said.
