Ukraine ministry offers Russia to import electric power at $43.5 per MW

Ministry of Energy and Coalmining asked Russian Energy Minister Aleksander Novak to conclude a deal for electric power import

KIEV, December 28. /TASS/. Ukrainian Ministry of Energy and Coalmining asked Russian Energy Minister Aleksander Novak to conclude a deal for electric power import at the price of 688 hryvnas per MW ($43.5), the Ukrainian ministry’s press service reported on Sunday.

On Saturday, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said that Russia would deliver electric power to Ukraine, but did not specify its amounts. As regard to this statement, the Ukrainian ministry has also prepared its statement.

“According to open sources, the current VAT-free electric power price on Russian energy market makes around 2,100 roubles per one megawatt that according to the official hryvna exchange rate makes around 688 hryvnas per one MW...Ukrainian Ministry of Energy and Coalmining asked Russian Energy Minister Novak to conclude urgently a purchase-and-sale contract on above-listed terms,” the ministry said.

Last Friday, Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Coalmining Vladimir Demchishin said that within a next few days Ukraine would start electric power import from Moldova, Belarus and Russia in order to stop power blackouts for domestic consumers. He recalled that the domestic government had earlier permitted any companies to import electric power “to improve the life of people as quickly as possible.”.
