Moscow holds international exercises for prevention of nuclear terrorism

During the exercises Russia will demonstrate the latest high-tech achievements of the Defense Ministry and the Rosatom Corporation in the field of detection of nuclear materials

MOSCOW, September 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Moscow has been conducting international exercises for prevention of nuclear terrorism, a source from the FSB Center for Public Relations told Itar-Tass.

On Thursday international exercises "Guard-2012" to demonstrate anti-terrorist activities have begun in Moscow in the framework of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism (GICNT), proclaimed by the presidents of Russia and the United States in St .Petersburg on July 15, 2006 and covering more than 80 countries, the FSB source said.

At Russia's initiative delegations from 58 countries and observers from the International Atomic Energy Agency, Interpol and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime will take part in the exercises.

During the exercises Russia will demonstrate the latest high-tech achievements of the Defense Ministry and the Rosatom Corporation in the field of detection of nuclear materials and radioactive substances, and the FSB and Rosatom technical emergency services will demonstrate their achievements in methods of prevention of the threat of nuclear terrorism and elimination of its after-effects.
