MOSCOW, September 17 (Itar-Tass) —— The criminal case was opened against Yuri Piotrovsky, who poured the ink on an icon at the Christ the Saviour Cathedral, under an article of the Criminal Code for hooliganism, the press service of the Moscow police told Itar-Tass on Monday.

“The detective from the police department in the Central Administrative District ruled to open a criminal case against Piotrovsky under Article 213 of the Criminal Code for hooliganism. The criminal materials will be passed to the prosecutor’s office over this offence,” the press service said.

The police reported last Sunday, September 16, Piotrovsky poured the ink on an icon at the Christ the Saviour Cathedral and was detained at the crime scene.

Piotrovsky lives permanently in Germany, where he gives lectures in religious studies, a source in the Moscow law enforcement agencies told Itar-Tass on Monday. He is registered in St. Petersburg. He studied at the St. Petersburg Orthodox Spiritual Academy, but he did not graduate from this educational establishment. Since the early nineties he lives and works in Munich, the source said.

He noted that in Germany Piotrovsky gives lectures on religious studies and is an author of the concept of neo-Christianity as a common world super-religion of the humankind.
