10 killed, 4 injured in An-28 plane emergency landing in Kamchatka

MOSCOW, September 12 (Itar-Tass) — The number of fatalities of an emergency landing of the Antonov An-28 plane on the Kamchatka Peninsula has grown to 10. Spokesperson for the Far Eastern Centre of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM) Olga Alkina told Itar-Tass by telephone that a child with a severe injury has died.

Thus, of 14 people who were on board (12 passengers and two crewmembers) 10 people have been were killed and four injured.

The An-28 plane was performing a passenger flight No 251 on the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky – Palana. At 12:48, local time, radio contact with the plan was lost. The missing plane was discovered from a Mi-8 helicopter on the slope of Mount Pyatibratka at a height of 900 metres in the thickets of dwarf pine. The plane made an emergency landing 10 kilometres from the Palana town in the north of the peninsula. The airliner’s wreckage is scattered.

Investigators and criminologists of the Far Eastern Transport Investigation Department have been working at the scene. Representatives of the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) have flown there from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
